Job Overview:

The General Assistant will be responsible for carrying out both planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance tasks as allocated by the Senior Technician. The role involves ensuring that maintenance tasks and repairs are performed according to best operating practices, as well as assisting with general workshop duties and maintaining a tidy work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance Tasks:
  • Undertake planned preventative maintenance tasks as allocated by the Senior Technician.

  • Perform reactive maintenance tasks and repairs as directed by the Senior Technician.

  • Ensure that all maintenance tasks and repairs are conducted following best operating practices.

  • Provide a list of required materials to the Senior Technician to ensure successful execution of maintenance tasks.

  • Complete and issue weekly check sheets to the Senior Technician.

Workshop Duties:
  • Assist in maintaining a tidy and presentable workshop environment, ensuring it is well-organized and safe.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of electrical fixtures, plumbing, and carpentry, including the repairs and maintenance of these systems.

  • Tool and Material Knowledge: Familiarity with tools and materials used in maintenance and repair tasks.

  • Work Planning: Ability to plan, organize, and control work efficiently.

  • Communication: Good oral communication skills, with the ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Customer Service: Strong customer relations skills and the ability to handle customer inquiries professionally.

  • Conflict Management: Ability to handle conflicts effectively and maintain emotional resilience in challenging situations.

  • Teamwork: Ability to work well with others, especially when assisting the Senior Technician.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum: Grade 10 and N2 level qualification.

  • Advantageous: A valid driver’s license.

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in the maintenance field.
